The MP-YP module in a nutshell

Have you ever gone into a room and then wondered what for? We all have. We’re human so our attention wanders and when that happens, so do mistakes. In operations systems that often means that defects are produced and time, money and resources are wasted. Worse still, if those defects get through to our customers they can mean a big dent in our reputation and the loss of future orders. Yet we persist in designing operations systems that demand superhuman powers of concentration to prevent mistakes from being made.

Wouldn’t it be great if there were a simple way of designing mistake-proof operations processes? The good news is that there is: it’s called poka yoke.

Using BHW’s one-day Poka Yoke workshop will help you to:

  • eliminate quality problems that occur because of human error
  • reduce the costs associated with non-conformance
  • enable closer adherence to schedules
  • reduce inventory levels and investment

The aim and outcomes of the workshop

The aims of Mistake proof your processes are to provide you with a systematic, effective way to:

1. Identify opportunities for mistake proofing
2. Identify the root causes of mistakes
3. Design simple, effective, low cost methods of preventing mistakes from happening.
4. Implementing mistake proofing solutions.

After successfully completing the workshop participants will be able to:

  • use a team approach to solving problems.
  • understand and use the 8D problem-solving method.
  • use appropriate simple but effective analytical techniques to support the problem-solving method
  • use a standard format to report progress

Who MP-YP is for

The module is aimed at anyone who wants to understand how to prevent the mistakes that arise in operations processes due to human error. It has wide-ranging applicability from operations teams involved in problem-solving and improvement activities to those responsible for process design.

What’s in MY-PY?

The Workshop is a balanced mixture of classroom based learning and application using a case study. The workshop deals with the following topics:

  • We’re all human: why mistakes occur
  • Mistake-proofing: a simple approach
  • Identifying the cause(s) of mistakes
  • Prevention and detection: the mistake proofing solution set
  • Choosing a solution
  • Testing and implementing mistake proofing solutions

Each participant in MY-PY gets a pack containing overheads and other materials.

Important other information

Duration: MY-PY lasts for one day and can be used by itself or in combination with other modules in the Process Transformation Programme.
